Chefchaouen Woman
Chefchaouen Woman
This image was taken in Chefchaouen, Morocco. Also known as ‘The Blue Pearl’ of Morocco for its traditional houses painted in blue and white.
There’s a bit of debate about why the town is painted blue, and whether it’s just to attract tourists. But one explanation was that the colour blue represents the sky, which reminded the people of heaven and God.
As we wandered around the narrow streets filled with tiny ginger kittens and an abundance of orange juice, I saw this woman preparing her linens to go to the outdoor washroom. A stone structure built with washboards where the water is diverted in from the river. A different way of life.
